Taking Care of Your Porcelain and Stoneware

At Fyrklövern, we adore porcelain and stoneware! To us, it's more than just simply plates and mugs - they are part and parcel of many of life's moments from a daily family meal to special occasions. That's why we're here to help you care for your precious porcelain so it can continue to bring joy to your home year after year. With these simple yet effective care tips, your collection will remain in top condition for many years to come:

Care in the Dishwasher and Microwave

Most of our dinnerware is dishwasher safe. You can also help to maintain the shine of the surface finish with a rinse aid. This also helps to reduce wear and tear when stacking plates as they slide more easily. Items with gold/platinum decoration should not be washed in the dishwasher.

Our collections are also perfectly safe to use in the microwave. However, never use porcelain or stoneware decorated with a metallic finish, such as gold or platinum, in the microwave.

Immediately Rinse After Use

To keep your porcelain looking its best, rinse immediately after a meal when it is easy to wash food off. This prevents leftovers, especially from acidic foods like apples and lemons, discolouring your dinnerware. Steel wool, scouring pads, or similar abrasive pads should be avoided as they will also wear and dull the finish.

Avoid Sudden Temperature Changes

Be mindful to avoid rapid changes in temperature as this can cause damage to your precious porcelain. This applies in both directions - do not heat up too fast, or cool down suddenly without allowing the item to reach room temperature.

Handle Ovenproof Dishes with Care

If food has burnt onto an Ovenproof dish, we recommend soaking the dish in water with a mild detergent solution for about 30 minutes. This makes it easier to remove food residues without damaging the dish. Do not use scouring pads, steel wool, or similar cleaning aids, as these can cause damage to the surface.

Prevent Black Streaks from Cutlery

If you notice black streaks on your plates, likely from cutlery, you can use rinse aid in the dishwasher. This helps to reduce the risk of unsightly metallic marks.

Preserve the Shine

Ensure you use the correct amount of dishwasher detergent. This preserves the shine and prevents limescale spots. To remove limescale safely, clean gently with vinegar mixed with water or lemon juice, and your ceramics will shine again like new for the next guest.

Removing Coffee and Tea Stains

Over time, tea and coffee can cause unsightly stains. To effectively remove these marks, you can mix 2-3 tablespoons of citric acid, bicarbonate of soda, or dishwasher detergent with hot water. Let this sit for a few hours before washing and rinsing thoroughly.

Store Carefully in the Cupboard

When storing your plates in the kitchen cupboard, avoid sliding them on top of each other, which is the most common cause of wear and tear of the glaze.

By following these simple tips, you can help ensure that your porcelain and stoneware from Fyrklövern remains in pristine condition for years to come. So, give your collection the love it deserves, and your dinnerware will serve you well throughout your life!

How to Keep Your Cutlery Looking Its Best

Laying out your cutlery for a special party or simply for everyday use should bring pleasure to you. Your Fyrklövern cutlery is not just a functional tool for eating food; it is also an expression of your personal style and a part of your interior decor. Here are some tips and advice on caring for your cutlery.

Regular Cleaning

After using your cutlery, it's important to rinse them well before putting them in the dishwasher. Avoid using abrasive cleaners that can scratch the surface.

Avoid Prolonged Soaking

Don't leave your cutlery soaking for extended periods, especially if the cutlery has wooden handles. Prolonged soaking can damage the materials and surface finish.

Protect Your Cutlery in the Dishwasher

If your cutlery is dishwasher safe, place them in the dishwasher with the handles up and spaced apart. The closer the cutlery is during washing and storage, the more scratches they will accumulate over time.

Ensure the dishwasher is set according to the manufacturer's recommendations for the water hardness in your area. Use a gentle polishing agent if stains appear on the cutlery. Avoid using detergents with a high chlorine content, as this can affect the shine. Wait until the cutlery is dry before putting it away.

Careful Storage

We recommend that the cutlery you use the most - your everyday set, should also be high quality. If you store the cutlery with care, avoiding wear and tear in the drawer, the set will add a finishing touch to every meal, no matter the occasion.

Regular Checks

Take the time to regularly inspect your cutlery for any damage, rust spots, or signs of wear. Address any issues promptly to extend the lifespan of your cutlery and keep it looking smart.

By following these simple tips, you can preserve the beauty and quality of your Fyrklövern cutlery for many years to come. The cutlery is not just a practical detail at the dinner table; it's an expression of your taste and a part of Fyrklövern's commitment to quality and elegance in your home. So, take good care of your cutlery, and it will bring you joy day after day.
