Small, everyday objects can seem unimportant, but they're far from it. Often it's the small things that really make your home feel cosy and add a personal touch. When it comes to laying the table, service plates are one of those little things that can take your dining experience to a whole new level. But what's a service plate? Let's take it from the beginning. Everything that's directly in front of a guest at a dining table is called a table setting. It can include a dinner plate, a plate for appetisers, cutlery and various types of glasses. A service plate is placed under all other plates as a base. So it's not a plate you eat from, but it's there to frame the guest's place setting and add a smart detail to your set table. When the starter and main course have been eaten and it's time to serve dessert, people usually clear the service plate along with the dinner plate.
